SGS Olveston United Women are delighted to confirm their second signing of the summer with the arrival of experienced full back Penelope (Pen) Ford.
Versatile full back, Ford, was part of the squad that helped St Ives Town seal promotion to tier 5 during the 2018/19 season as well as helping them finish runners-up in the Huntington FA Women’s Senior Cup in April last year. Ford also went on to make nine appearances for Huntington Town Ladies before relocating to Bristol early this year where she linked up with SGS Olveston United at the tail end of last season and began training with the squad where she quickly impressed, bedding into the group with her bubbly personality and strong defensive style.
Ford, brings with her a wealth of experience at tier 5 and 6 and will link back up with former St Ives Town team-mate Anna Hicks who also joined the O’s from St Ives a season ago. After discussions during the end of season break, Ford was rewarded for her patience and effort and will add real depth and competition to the defensive options.
First Team Assistant Manager Mark Butt gave us his reaction to the latest arrival at BS34 “Pen has been brilliant since she linked up with the group at the back end of last season. In an ideal World we would have signed her up for the run in but she missed the registration deadline and has had to be really patient and fully deserves her place within the squad”
Butt continued “I think the wait has only made Pen hungrier and she has been really putting in the hard yards already in pre-season training and we look forward to finally getting her onto the pitch in pre-season and working with her throughout the season ahead”
Welcome Pen!
