Unbeaten run continues

Olveston United played away at Nicholas Wanderers on Saturday in the only league fixture on a wet weekend. With games in hand it was a good opportunity to put some points on the board and we did so with a 2-0 victory, both goals coming from Leo Glew.

What’s really helped this season is consistency in our squad, we aren’t making many changes each week and players are used to playing with each other. From our win against Winterbourne before Christmas we made one change with Ben Garraway coming back into the starting line up.

We’ve had 3 league clean sheets in a row and Matt Barnes in goal has looked like he’s played there his whole career when in fact he cut his teeth as a combative central midfielder and this is his first season in goal for us. With a solid back four in front of him we were hard to break down.

The academy graduates in our side are every bit a part of our success with Jonny Mead at right back and James Worley playing wide left up front for us. He crossed superbly for the first goal as Leo Glew headed home from close range. And Worley started the move that saw his raking pass across to Matt Knight who first time crossed from the right for Glew to again head home from close range. Our front three of Knight, Worley and Glew look like they’ll produce and score goals every game. In fact, the only league game we didn’t score in was our first game of the season away at AEK Boco.

Our midfield of Ben Garraway, Joe Loney and Josh Allen was busy and creative and yesterday they did very well on a difficult pitch by getting the ball wide to the flanks where conditions were much better and we could play football. Our other under 18 - Isaac Fleming also came on off the bench and looked a threat with his pace and power.

Credit also to Nicholas Wanderers who gave us a good game and played good football at times.

Thanks also to Paul Ferragut (Fez - Reserve team manager) and Mike Worley (under 18s coach) who helped from the sidelines.
