Three on the bounce as Step 6 awaits!

The Football Association have today approved our Women's application for promotion to the South West Regional Women's Football League (Step 6) for the 2022-23 season!

Todays successful application marks a third successive promotion for our Women's side which has seen them rise from Division 3 of the Gloucestershire County Women's Football League to now step 6 of the football pyramid. After winning the Division 2 title last season courtesy of a 2-0 win over Longlevens Ladies on the final day the aim was to consolidate in Division 1 for a season before looking to push on into Step 6 however under the stewardship of Manager James Eveleigh the team hit the ground running extended an unbeaten ran to 26 games before Christmas.

Despite losing all but one of its central midfielders, due to a number of players relocating from the area with work or Uni, the squad rallied hard to finish in the Top 3 missing out eventually on runners up spot on the final day of the season thanks to a late Bishops Cleeve goal. With a Top 3 spot secured the application for promotion was made and todays confirmation is a culmination of 3 seasons hard work!

Olveston United AFC Chairman Stuart Evans said "I am absolutely delighted to receive the confirmation that our application has been accepted. This is no more than the players and management deserve for all their hard work, commitment and effort on and off the pitch. Our newly announced partnership with SGS College shows our commitment to Women's football and with the first class facilities that await them next season I have no doubt they will be ready for the challenge that Step 6 brings when the season starts in September"

A delighted 1st Manager James Eveleigh said "I am absolutely delighted to have secured promotion to the South West Women's Regional League. To have achieved three promotions in three seasons is an incredible feat and the players deserve huge credit for the way they have brought into what we are doing here. They have all applied themselves with the upmost professionalism and dedication while continuing to raise the bar and push each other on to achieve the best version of themselves. We have had to do this the hard way by starting in the bottom Division and working our way up but piece by piece, season by season we know we are building something special here. There is no end to what can achieve together"

Recruitment continues ahead of the new campaign, with the addition of two extra trial dates announced yesterday. So if you feel you would like to be part of the next chapter here at Olveston then click here to register your interest.
