"We feel this is an important and progressive step in our 96 year history..."

Despite the 2021/22 season still being in progress, preparation and planning for the 2022/23 season began some time ago. As part of that planning we have some really exciting announcements to make in the coming weeks and months and we are delighted to announce the first of those today.

In an important and progressive step, we will be formally renaming our Ladies sides replacing ‘Ladies’ with ‘Women’ in their name which will see them renamed to ‘Olveston United Women’ for the 2022/23 season. The change will see the removal of all references to ‘Ladies’ with the club only using the name ‘Olveston United Women’ in order to differentiate from the Men’s teams choosing where possible to refer to our Women’s side simply as ‘Olveston United’ just as we do with our Men’s team.

Here at Olveston we take pride in a togetherness and unity that represents today’s modern day thinking, language and equality. Our recent partnership with Her Game Too shows our commitment to achieving that and stamping out any discrimination that exists in todays footballing circles.

Chairman Stuart Evans said “We feel this is an important and progressive step in our 96 year history with work continuing to improve all aspects of our Women’s team both on and off the field and upcoming announcements will further display our commitment to that promise. We hope that our commitment to the Women’s game will inspire the next generation of girls for years to come”.

1st Team Manager and Head of Womens and Girls Football at the Club James Eveleigh said “I have been working closely with Stuart and the Committee in recent months to ensure we continue to evolve the female section at the club and the support from everyone has been exceptional and the name change further strengthens the forward thinking nature we have here at Olveston”
